flat plans

My designed flat plans for both of my editions and website design along with the linked homepage are explained briefly on the above slides.

planning my editions

My planning of both of my editions and how i will have the same house style over the two editions are shown.

Reader's Profile

These 2 examples show who my potential audience. By doing a reader's profile I have got an idea of what type of content to produce for it to appeal to my target audience who are between the ages of 18-25.

entertainment magazine mood board HIP-HOP

I produced a mood board for my hip-hop R&B music magazine to give me an idea on some of the elements that I need to include to make it look like a music magazine.

website investigation

Here are some of the music magazine website conventions that I annotated and might include in my own magazine website.

model representation

Here are 2 examples of my model representation where the same model is seen in 2 very different forms. I have done this model representation to find out how one model can be seen in more than one way and how the conventions of the magazine also change depending on the house style.

typography

Here are some examples of different typography research that I carried out which I can potentially use on my magazine front cover and website homepage. I want to keep my typography consistent throughout my front cover website and context page, so it doesn't look odd with more than 2 different typography's.

colour scheme

This is the colour scheme I am intending on using. I wanted to use autumn and Christmas themed colours for my magazine including some black to add a serious mood to my magazine as it is based on hip hop music. This colour scheme isn't very colourful or dark because I wanted to keep it neutral simple but elegant so there is not too much going on in the front cover.

The first link is my Hearst case study which is research that contains background information and some statistics about Hearst itself and who they are, how did their brand became so well known etc. By carrying out this research my understanding about the brand became more stronger and I felt more aware of the steps that I needed to implement towards my music magazine. The second link should show a mood board of just a few examples of magazines that Hearst own. Lastly the third link is the original website of Hearst that I have attached to show where most of my information and knowledge came from.

Case Study ( inside Soap)

Above is the link attached to the case study/research that I carried out on Hearst's website, but focused on only one magazine that relates to my theme which is music. I am aware that the magazine I have chosen to research which is Inside soap is not a music magazine but it is an entertainment magazine which covers what my magazine is based on. I researched the history of the magazine and briefly explained how inside soap links to my magazine and what I might include in my music magazine which is similar to inside soap. Seeing as this magazine and my music magazine both come under entertainment I can include some gossip features in my front cover as my magazine has a mass marketed audience so not specifically girls or boys of certain age, so by adding gossip in I can attract more members of audience towards my magazine.

deconstruction of contents page

I deconstructed three different content pages of music magazines to help me with finding appropriate layouts and how to link my front cover to my contents page. As I have been going through and editing these content pages I observed and picked up on how I could combine and make a unique layout for my music magazine contents page. I also witnessed that some music magazine content pages don't always contain a large amount of writing but rather have more images, but that again all depends on who the magazine is aimed at. By deconstructing these contents pages I realised that my contents page also has to be aimed at  my specif target audience, for example If the theme of the magazine is entertainment  and the front cover is a certain colour and aimed at specific target audience then the same has to continue onto the contents page and any other pictures I want to add to my contents page  has to be related to my front cover and theme of magazine.

Front Cover Deconstruction

I have deconstructed 3 music magazine front covers to see the different conventions in different magazines and what I can include in my own music magazine taking into considerations these edited versions as well. Moreover not every magazine has the same house style or conventions so looking at a variety of front covers has expanded my knowledge on music magazines. These magazines have given me a vision for my magazine and how I want to intend on producing my music magazine. Editing these front covers has been helpful in terms of making me think about the colour scheme that I might use and the typography. Furthermore , I have picked up some information on how to make it eye catching for my target audience.
